Thames Visionaries: Vessels of the Future

Thames Visionaries Vessels of the Future Logo

Join us on an exciting creative journey to explore what the vessels of the future could look like on the tidal Thames.

Vessels of the Future is a new competition inviting young people (aged 11–18) to unleash their imaginations and design the boats, ships or rivercraft of tomorrow. Whether you’re inspired by sustainability, smart technology, futuristic materials or just have a wild imagination – we want to see your vision for the future of river travel.

What’s it all about?

From autonomous ferries to zero-emission barges, the future of transport and travel on the tidal Thames is being imagine right now. Through this competition we’re asking: ‘What will the Thames look like in 2050?’ and more importantly, what will be sailing on it? You don’t need to be an engineer or a ship designer – just bring your creativity and curiosity.

Age Categories

We are welcoming entries across two age categories

  • Ages 11–14: Let your imagination run wild with fun and creative designs
  • Ages 15–18: Dive into a design challenge considering real-world innovations and sustainability at its core

Each category will be judged separately, with prizes and recognition awarded for creativity, innovation and vision. Winning designs will also be showcased at London International Shipping Week 2025 - an incredible opportunity to present your vision to maritime experts and industry leaders.

Masterclass

We recently held a Thames Visionaries Masterclass in partnership with Royal Museums Greenwich.

Colleagues from different organisations delivered presentations to inspire those who attended.
