It is an offence under the Act to construct, place, alter, renew, maintain or retain works which are in, on, under or over the River Thames without an appropriate licence in place.
Unlicensed works, and breaches of licence conditions are investigated with a view to resolve the issue through negotiation, notices and prosecution for non-compliance.
The Port of London Act 1968 (as amended) provides the PLA with the powers to impose fines and further prosecution through the courts for non-compliance.
