In order to maintain the best possible service to customers, the Overcarry of PLA Pilots will not be permitted except in safety critical situation or in exceptional circumstances. The approval of not just the pilot but also the Port Authority is required before any pilot is overcarried.
Where carryover cannot be avoided arrangements for the repatriation of our pilot must be agreed prior to act being undertaken.
The PLA has noticed a trend that there has been reluctance from the receiving agents at foreign ports to assist with their repatriation. London agents are reminded that where Pilot Overcarry does occur, they will be charged detention for hours that PLA pilots spend outside its port limits (please see PLA Charges page 16) and where return arrangements have to be made by the PLA, an administration fee also applies.
This will be invoiced to the agent and operator. Where we have been notified by our pilot that no return arrangements are in place, PLA will first contact the London agent to request intervention.
