Mariners are advised that the Environment Agency and the Canal & River Trust has published various notices advising about lock closures and other restrictions on the London’s non-tidal waterways. These include but are not limited to City Road Lock (Regent’s Canal), Thames Lock in Brentford (Grand Union Canal) and Teddington Lock.
These closures and restrictions will affect where you can enter and exit the tideway and therefore, mariners should ensure they properly plan their passage and are fully aware of the Port of London Authority’s General Directions, Thames Byelaws and PLA Notices to Mariners when navigating on the tidal stretch.
General Direction 12 on VHF CARRIAGE & USE is particularly pertinent for any mariners navigating commercial Vessels of more than 7.0 metres in Length Overall and Pleasure Vessels of 13.7 metres or more in Length Overall.
For further information on the closures and restrictions, mariners should refer to the Environment Agency and Canal & River Trust’s notices available at River Thames: restrictions and closures - GOV.UK and Notices and stoppages | Canal & River Trust.
