On Monday 16th June 2025, contractors will commence abseiling operations on Westminster Bridge. These works will take place both by day and night, and are expected to last 3 weeks.   

 To accommodate these works arch restrictions will occur as per the table below:

Note: These closures are in addition to that of arch 2 promulgated in M43-25. 

During working hours, a safety boat and/or tug will be in attendance. Mariners transiting Westminster Bridge are requested to pass with caution. Mariners must ensure that wash and draw off are kept to a minimum when passing the site. 

Arches closed to navigation will be marked in accordance with the Port of London Authority Thames Byelaws 2012 namely:  

  • By day, three red discs 0.6 metres in diameter at the points of an equilateral triangle with the apex downwards and the base horizontal 
  • By night, three red lights in similar positions to the discs displayed by day.

During the width restriction of Arch 2, black and yellow tiger stripes will be displayed up to a maximum of 10 meters from the abutment. No vessel should pass between the tiger stripe boards and abutment.  

 Any requirements to proceed with caution or at slow speed, will be made in accordance with the procedures set out in the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘London VTS’, ‘Section 4’ with the International Code Flags ‘Romeo Yankee’ displayed, which are illustrated below.

The display of these signals will be in addition to any lights or shapes required under local regulations and the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea. 

Mariners transiting Westminster Bridge are requested to pass with caution. Mariners must ensure that wash and draw off are kept to a minimum when passing the site. This Notice supersedes and replaces Select an option, which is hereby cancelled.A safety boat will be in attendance throughout and maintaining a listening watch on VHF Channel 14.
