Mariners are advised that on or around 19th September 2024 Tideway contractors will begin works between Blackfriars Railway Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge on the construction of a modular floating platform which will be used for works to the culvert structure and are expected to be ongoing until June 2025.
The area of works is shown in red on the chartlet below.
When built, the pontoon is 27m x 7.5m and will be held in position by means of mooring points on the existing Tideway structure, spud legs and anchors at the eastern end. All mooring points including the anchors will be within the red area and the anchors will be marked by a buoy when submerged. A HIAB crane will be mounted to the western end of the pontoon.
Arch 2 of Blackfriars Bridges will remain closed throughout, as indicated by the smart signal light and in accordance with the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘Bridges’, section 2.1.
During these works a work boat SHAKEDOG/CHILLI DOG or similar will be used to supply materials and staff to the modular pontoon daily. Any works vessels will maintain a listening watch on VHF channel 14.
