On 5th August 2024 contractors working on behalf of Transport for London will commence works on the Canning Town/A13 Road Bridge in Bow Creek. These works fall within the Canal & River Trust navigational jurisdiction, but mariners navigating from the tidal Thames should be aware. These works are expected to last 58 weeks.
To accommodate these works scaffolding will be erected on the bridge and the channel restricted as follows:
Headroom Reduction
Headroom will be reduced by 1.5m.
Revised headroom will be 3.4m from MHWS.
Navigable Width
Navigable width will be reduced to a minimum of 10m.
Navigation should be between in between the temporary fendering.
Where the headroom is reduced this will be signalled in accordance with the Port of London Authority Thames Byelaw 36.1 namely:
By Day – A bundle of straw large enough to be easily visible and displayed at the height of restricted headroom;
By Night – A white light in place of the bundle of straw.
Mariners should navigate with due caution and with full awareness of their air draught.
For further information on the works and traffic control mariners should refer to the Canal & River Trust Notices (available at www.canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices).
