Mariners are advised that, on or about 28th July 2025, No. 5 arch of Charing Cross Railway Bridge and the associated Golden Jubilee Footbridges will transition from open to navigation with reduced headroom, to closed to navigation. This closure will remain in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to facilitate the removal of scaffolding.
Works are expected to last for 10 weeks.
Any restrictions/closures to other arches will be covered by separate NtM.
Works in the arch will be conducted by the vessel SCHELDEMOND with a safety boat will be in attendance. All vessels involved in the works will maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 14.
Arches closed to navigation will be marked in accordance with the Port of London Authority (PLA) Thames Byelaws 2012:
A) by day, three red discs 0.6 metres in diameter at the points of an equilateral triangle with the apex downwards and the base horizontal;
B) by night, three red lights in similar positions to the discs displayed by day.
Requirements to proceed with caution or at slow speed will be made in accordance with the procedure set out in the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘Speed Reductions’ with the International Code Flags ‘Romeo Yankee’ displayed, which are illustrated below.
