Mariners are advised that, from 06th October 2025 onwards, works associated with the Neuconnect cable lay project are expected to re-commence in the Thames Estuary in the vicinity of the Isle of Grain. The diagram below shows the approximate works area, bounded by the red markings: -
These works will involve surveys, inspections, reinstatement, excavations, trenching and burial of the cable, and will be carried out from various vessels and plant, including:
Jack-up barge BD6074; workboats JENNY D, EFFY D and MOR-KI-TAROW; amphibious excavators and small hovercraft. Other tugs, workboats and small craft may also be in attendance on these works, either in addition to, or instead of, any of the foregoing.
At times, barge BD6074 may be anchored with a spread of cables and anchors extending around her position. Mariners are advised to keep well clear of her and her anchors, cables and gear.
During these works, in the interests of safety, it may be necessary for the Swatchway to be temporarily closed to navigation from time to time. Any such temporary closure will be broadcast by London VTS.
The attention of mariners is particularly drawn to Medway Ports Authority Notice to Mariners No. 32 of 2025, which further describes the works to be carried out and the location; and to any other Notices to Mariners relating to these works which may be issued by Medway Ports Authority from time to time.
Mariners are further advised that additional works on the Neuconnect cable may be undertaken between KP 2 and KP 12 – this area is illustrated on the below diagrams:
These works will involve surveying and inspections of the cable, and subsequent remedial burial and similar seabed works.
Further information will be broadcast, as appropriate, by London VTS on VHF ch. 68 & 69.
PLA Notice to Mariners L72-25 refers to Neuconnect works seaward of KP12.
This Notice will remain published, with its expiry date extended as required, until these operations are complete; at that time, it will be withdrawn without further communication.
