Rewarding, Varied and Fun - A PLA Apprenticeship

Turn to the Thames - that’s the advice from three Port of London Authority (PLA) apprentices in a new film for young people considering their career options.

The Cleaner Thames campaign is all about stopping rubbish getting in the River Thames.

Every year hundreds of tonnes of plastic bottles, food wrappers and other rubbish gets into the Thames, harming creatures including fish, seals and birds. Backed by international explorer, Paul Rose the campaign has a simple message: Bin it for a Cleaner Thames.

The Boat Race

Date: Sunday 7th April

The 165th University Boat Race takes place on Sunday 7th April 2019. The Women’s race is first up at 2.15pm, while the men’s race takes place at 3.15pm.

The PLA has an important and traditional role at the world-famous event. The week leading up to it sees us inspect the course to identify and clear any hazards. And on the big day, we man “stake boats” which have an instrumental role in fairly launching the competing teams at the race’s starting line at Putney.
