Thurrock public meeting for Port Of London Authority

Anyone with an interest in the tidal Thames is welcome to attend the Port of London Authority’s (PLA) public meeting in Thurrock next week.

The Custodians of the world-famous stretch of water through London and out to the North Sea, have planned the meeting to discuss current and future matters related to the river (between Crossness and the estuary). It is due to take place at Thurrock Yacht Club, Argent Street, RM17 6JF on Tuesday 8 May and starts at 6.30pm.

Chairing the meeting will be PLA chief executive Robin Mortimer, alongside chief harbour master Bob Baker. Other members of the harbour master team will be on hand to answer any questions you might have.

The PLA has regularly held public meetings in London and Essex as they give members of the public a chance to air their views. This will be the first ever to be held in Thurrock. It will begin with a short presentation on Thames and PLA developments. This will be followed by a Q&A/discussion addressing any matters of interest to those attending.

“We’re looking forward to our first Thurrock meeting,” said Robin Mortimer. “The borough is the biggest single cargo handling centre on the Thames; more than 70% of cargo handled on the Thames passes through terminals there. It’s a centre for continued investment in port operations which we’ll cover in the presentations, along with growing leisure uses of the Thames too.”

The meeting starts at 6.30pm and refreshments will be available from 6.00 pm. The nearest public transport location is Grays railway station, which is a 10-minute walk from the venue. Parking is available near the club, in Argent Street.

If you have any questions or topics of interest that you’d like to raise at the meeting, please send them (along with confirmation of your attendance) to: raj.kehal@pla.co.uk.
