Salary range £30,394 - £33,550 per annum
This position attracts a 15% Shift Allowance, 5% Overtime Allowance and 5% Bank Holiday Allowance upon completion of training
The Port of London Authority (PLA) is responsible for 95 miles of the River Thames from the Estuary to Teddington Lock in West London. We work to keep river users safe, protect and enhance the environment and promote the use of the river for trade and travel.
The Authority operates and maintains the Lock and Weir at Richmond 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, in order to maintain water levels between Richmond and Teddington.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to be responsible for the operation of Richmond Lock and Weir, its general maintenance and the upkeep of the surrounding area. The successful candidate will have considerable contact with and provide advice to both professional and leisure river users.
A current knowledge of the Upper Reaches, tidal waters and experience of boat-handling will be advantageous, but full training will be given. The person appointed will be expected to become conversant with the PLA River Byelaws, General Directions and current Notices to Mariners. The position involves some manual handling and the safe operation of machinery. Administrative skills required to include knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel spreadsheets.
You will be employed on 12-hour, 5 watch rotary shift conditions and have the responsibility to cover all operational and emergency requirements outside the 35-hour working week. Relief cover will also be necessary to encompass sickness and annual leave as will night and lone working.
