Investment top of agenda for new head of estates

An ambitious investment plan to support the economy of the tidal Thames is the priority for Oster Milambo, newly appointed head of estates at the Port of London Authority (PLA).

With 14 years’ experience leading local government development projects and investment strategies, Oster is responsible for the PLA’s land and property portfolio, including recent acquisitions to boost the use of barges on the river to transport inland freight, reduce air pollution and meet Net Zero targets.

Julie Tankard, the PLA’s chief financial officer, said: “Oster will be taking our successful income diversification strategy, launched in 2019, into its next phase.

“Our re-activations of the protected Peruvian, Plaistow and Primrose Wharves in east London is a solid, long-term income stream and underlines our commitment to maximise the commercial success of the river, whilst also protecting the environment.

“I am delighted to have Oster on board as part of the team delivering this very important work.”

Oster succeeds John Ball, who is retiring this summer after 16 years’ service at the PLA.

Julie Tankard added: “We would like to thank John for all his hard work and hope he enjoys this next phase in his life.”
